Starlike® Defender: the first antibacterial epoxy grout
In an antibacterial flooring-wall system, both tiles and joints need to be antibacterial.
Litokol, in collaboration with the Department of Biomedical Sciences (Microbiology section) of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, has created Starlike® Defender, the first sealant which kills up to 99,9% of the bacteria represented by the main strains of Staphylococcus Aureus and Eschirichia Coli.
Test results: the sample showed clear antibacterial qualities, killing up to 99.9% of bacteria. This characterises the tested product as being perfectly compatible with the functional needs of environments with strict hygiene requirements.
Starlike® Defender: Suitable for contact with foodstuffs
With Starlike® Defender, the fields of application extend to health care facilities, laboratories, nurseries, schools, locker rooms, gyms, public pools, canteens, food and agriculture industries and warehouses, spas. In residential buildings, the antibacterial characteristics are a guarantee of greater hygiene, increasing living comfort safety. The tests of resistance to fungal growth in accordance with BS 5980.1980 prove that Starlike® Defender drastically reduces the growth of mould.
Starlike® Defender is suitable for contact with foodstuffs 01-02.03-04-05-06-07-08 (reference numbers for the name of the foodstuffs as per the Decree of the Ministry of Health 26.04.1993, No. 2, Annex II) under conditions of prolonged contact (at temperatures between +5 ° to +40 °).
